There’s a new World of Warcraft Star Wars game out next year, Star Wars The Old Republic. And it’s a lot like World of Warcraft, a lot of people playing in the same world going on quests together and dancing, etc. I’ve never found enough time to get into one of those kind of games, in fact I rarely find enough time to drive around running people down in Grand Theft Auto these days – I should get back to that. Anyway, I’m sure there will be a whole host of Star Wars Kid type memes next year when the game comes out but in the meantime if this is the kind of game that ticks your boxes then check out www.swtor-uk.com

It’s full of news about the game along with screenshots, videos and interviews and has a forum to discuss all the rumours. It’s kind of a niche market but seeing as a lot of people tend to stumble onto this site via google from places like Bulgaria, Brazil and Hungary (and hello to the Guatemalans following my tales) I thought I’d post this up and send you all over there.

Personally, I’ve always found the dancing in these games rather amusing, I’d be interested to see Darth Vader’s dance in the game.

Mario Kart Wii

I never really got into any of the previous Mario Kart games on the SNES or N64, etc. but this one has really got me into it. It’s pretty good as one player but the multi-player is great – I’ve had 4 players on the one Wii and today I had my first inter-continental race. I played against my family back in England and it’s great fun! I did add in a webcam so it gives more of a feeling of playing against other people, we had that running on laptops alongside the Wii.

Speedball 2

I don’t know how it will match up to the Amiga version but Speedball 2 is being released later this year. There is a trailer here. For those of you who don’t remember it was a kind of football/American football game where you had to score in the 2 goals either end of the pitch by throwing the ball between players and punching/smashing the other players. It was a good fast paced action/sports game.

Hopefully they won’t sacrifice the gameplay just to enhance the graphics.

Cleaning up your C drive

I had a pretty major crash last week on my C drive, there I was happily playing Half Life when the game freezes and after a restart I get a BSOD even when trying to start in safe mode. It just so happened that next week was going to be the first ever backup of all my photos and everything on the hard drive. Well backups are what you tell people they should be doing, not something you do yourself, right? I managed to get the data backup up onto another PC and scandisk seemed to fix things but I reinstalled Windows from clean anyway. It feels much better to have a nice clean system now – its like going from a room with clothes and stuff all over the place to everything being neatly tidied away. Very cleansing.

Its amazing how many programmes you build up over the course of a year, I won’t be reinstalling all of them but I still have quite a few to go. I’ve not yet go to that file that you forget to make a copy of before you wipe the hard drive, so hopefully there won’t be one this time. Worryingly I’ve had a few crashes already, but at least things are quicker to load now!

Internet connections

I’ve been having a lot of connection problems recently. Last weekend the router stopped working for 4 days because of settings on the modem, I don’t know why the modem decided to change its settings but it succeeded in frustrating me for a long weekend. I was so relieved when I fixed it and then Friday evening the line went down for a couple of hours. I tried to log on to watch the England v Jamaica game on Saturday (having woken up at 5.45am to do so) and found that the modem stopped working again and would work even with a restart. I spent the entire duration of the match on the phone to Verizon which ended in them telling me they’d send me a replacement modem. I thought I’d try resetting the modem today and it all seems fine, I do hate the modem though.

In other news my free copy of the new Tomb Raider game has arrived (its a bundle with my new graphics card) but I can’t install it yet as it requires 10gb of hard drive space. I remember when Doom 2 was released it was regarded as a huge game at 12mb.

Oh and its hot here, really hot. As in 95-100 degrees every day. Looks like summer has arrived just in time for the World Cup – only 4 days to go!

Its been a while

I didn’t realise quite how long it had been since I posted on here, is anyone still out there checking this? I’d like to say I used the time productively, well I’ve almost completed Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.

I have actually managed to get my latest set of immigration forms sent off to the USCIS (Immigration Services). If there are no problems with them then I should be a permanent resident in about 4 months. I may get my work permit sooner but I don’t think I’ll be able to get a driver’s license until I’m permanent and the public transport here is almost non existant. There’s certainly no tube service!
