    More than meets the eye

We went to see the Transformers movie yesterday. The CGI was way better than anything else I’ve seen. 2hrs30 long but it didn’t seem like it, some movies of that length drag on but they did well with it. I was disappointed that I only heard the transforming sound once in the whole movie, they do a clunking metallic sound rather than the, well I don’t know how to write what the sound sounds like but its this one. They changed Megatron quite a bit, instead of a big cannon on his arm and transforming into a gun he has no cannon and transforms into a fighter jet. I’m not convinced about the new looks of all the robots, but that’s probably just because I’m so used to seeing them the way they looked in their cartoon incarnations. It was a really good movie anyway and I’m sure there will be a sequel next year.

Its not out for a while yet in the UK but once it gets there Grindhouse is well worth seeing. Its the new double bill movie from Tarantino & Rodriguez, a little long at over 3 hours – could benefit from a short break in the middle – but they are 2 really good movies.

Saw Hot Fuzz yesterday too, the UK getting their own back on US cinema and delaying the release out here. Worth the wait too, plus they showed a preview before the movie for Simon Pegg’s next movie Run Fat Boy Run.

    Casino Royale

I went to see Casino Royale today. Its the best one since Goldeneye (which had the same director), Daniel Craig did a good job – he’s a different type of Bond to the others but made it a really good movie. I liked Pierce Brosnan but wasn’t too keen on the stories, this one is much better than the last couple, more of a story and less special effects. It starts with Bond before he was a 00-agent, so its really a kind of prequel, but then it gets a little confusing as all the technology and cars are modern – the dates on the text messages are July 2006.

Still, one of the best Bond movies.
